New Beginner Pilates and Gentle Pilates by Katy Lowthian – classes beginning soon!

About me.
I have enjoyed practising Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation since qualifying in 2018 from the Active Health Group in Manchester. Since then I have worked with a wide range of people, to treat pain and improve posture. I have also worked with Selkirk Rugby Club for five seasons treating sports injuries. Recently, I have completed my Matwork Pilates instructor training through APPI and am excited to start ‘beginners Pilates’ and ‘gentle Pilates’ classes at Border Physio Clinic. Having experienced the benefits of Pilates for over five years, I am delighted to have the opportunity to provide classes.

Pilates
Matwork Pilates is a type of therapeutic exercise designed to improve posture, movement and muscle activation, resulting in optimal function of the body. Originally, Pilates consisted of 34 classical movements which were founded by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. I teach a modified Pilates style, with more of a focus on physiotherapy, pain prevention and rehabilitation. Benefits of Pilates includes management of back and pelvic pain as well as improvement of posture, balance and core strength. Furthermore, Pilates is a safe enjoyable and method of exercise.

Beginners Pilates Programme
I will be running an 8 week beginners Pilates programme which is perfect if you are looking for a safe, progressive introduction to Pilates. This programme would also be well suited to you if you would like to return to Pilates. This programme will start with the Pilates key principles/elements, posture and breathing and will progress you through the beginners level of Pilates, encompassing some intermediate Pilates towards the end of the block.

Gentle Pilates Classes
Gentle Pilates encompasses a range of standing, chair and lying Pilates based exercises with a focus on balance and posture, as well as maintaining movement and strength. This class will run at a leisurely pace but will include challenges along the way! Exercises can always be modified to suit your needs. These sessions are ideal for older participants and for people with health conditions impacting on their mobility, strength, neurological system or respiratory system.
